Mr. Spaine’s decision to open an orphanage in Lunsar Marampa Chiefdom Port Loko District, Sierra Leone, stems from a deep-seated commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children in need. Witnessing the challenging circumstances that many orphaned and abandoned children face in this region ignited a passionate desire to create a safe haven for them.

Sierra Leone has faced its share of adversities, including a brutal civil war, the devastating Ebola outbreak and the catastrophic mudslide. These crises have left countless children without parental care, yet their resilience in the face of such hardships is nothing short of inspiring. The idea of providing these children with a nurturing environment, educational opportunities, and a chance for a brighter future is what propels the vision of establishing an orphanage in Lunsar Marampa Chiefdom Port Loko District.

The motivation to open an orphanage in Lunsar Marampa Chiefdom Port Loko District is rooted in a genuine desire to make a positive difference, one child at a time, and to be a catalyst for positive change in the lives of those who need it the most.

The determination to break the cycle of poverty and offer these children a sense of belonging, love, and stability serves as the driving force. Understanding that every child deserves the chance to thrive and reach their full potential, the motivation to contribute to their well-being and development becomes a personal mission.

Moreover, the vibrant community spirit in Lunsar Marampa Chiefdom Port Loko District and the warmth of its people play a crucial role in this decision. The aspiration is not just to build and sustain an orphanage but to create a supportive community that fosters growth and empowerment. By opening an orphanage in Lunsar Marampa Chiefdom Port Loko District, the aim is to become an integral part of the community, working together to uplift the lives of the children and contribute to the overall well-being of the town.

Solomon Chrystal Foundation, formally known as Chrystal Radio Children’s Foundation {FM 100.5}, was also once the only radio station/recording studio in this village.  Unfortunately, due to political violence, vandals and thieves our Chrystal Radio Children’s Foundations radio station was destroyed and violated.  All of our equipment, station furniture, and various items that ensured our success was stolen.  Presently we are in the introductory stage of reconstruction and Pray that the journey will not be extensive.

Pastor Teresa hosts residency for over 25 children. Unfortunately, we lost the official home a few years ago and now our children reside in Pastor Teresa's personal home, thus causing a desperate need for adequate accommodation.

Sierra Leones "Grass Mattresses"

The videos below discuss the manner in which most villages make mattress.  They are called “grass mattresses” and involve dry rice grass stuffed into several sown rice bags to form a mattress equivalent to either a twin or full size mattress.

Lunsar, Sierra Leone

In the heart of Lunsar Marampa Chiefdom Port Loko District, Sierra Leone, where the sun casts its golden glow over vibrant landscapes, a small orphanage stands as a beacon of hope for the region’s most vulnerable children. Yet, behind the scenes, the dedicated team faces numerous challenges that test their resilience and commitment to creating a brighter future.

Tusajigwe’s Alliance’s, Inc. mission is to circumvent the challenges of running an orphanage in Sierra Leone by providing necessary financial, educational, medical, emotional and long-term self-sustainment for the benefit of our children and families.

Our orphan village faces many challenges to include but not limited to:

Resource Scarcity

Lunsar Marampa Chiefdom Port Loko District, like many parts of Sierra Leone, grapples with limited resources. The orphanage struggles to secure adequate funding for essential needs such as nutritious meals, proper healthcare, and educational materials. The challenge lies not only in meeting these immediate needs but also in fostering an environment that allows each child to thrive and reach their full potential.

Infrastructure and Living Conditions

The orphanage, housed in a modest building, faces infrastructural challenges. Inconsistent power supply and unreliable water sources make daily operations challenging. Maintaining a safe and comfortable living space for the children becomes a constant juggling act, requiring creative solutions to address infrastructure gaps and improve overall living conditions.

Socioeconomic Pressures

Sierra Leone faces socioeconomic disparities, and Lunsar Marampa Chiefdom Port Loko District is no exception. The orphanage strives to provide quality education to its residents, but the lack of access to educational resources and opportunities hinders the children’s academic progress. Bridging this gap requires not only financial support but also community engagement to create a supportive network for the children’s educational journey.

Health and Well-being

The prevalence of diseases, including malaria and waterborne illnesses, poses a significant threat to children’s health. The orphanage grapples with limited access to healthcare facilities and must implement preventive measures to safeguard the well-being of the children. Maintaining a healthy environment becomes an ongoing battle against the backdrop of Sierra Leone’s healthcare challenges.

Trauma and Emotional Support

Many of the children arriving at the orphanage have experienced profound loss and trauma. Providing adequate emotional support requires a team of trained professionals, yet the shortage of mental health resources in the region poses a significant obstacle. The orphanage strives to create a nurturing environment where each child feels heard and supported, but the emotional toll remains a constant concern.

Despite these formidable challenges, the orphanage in Lunsar Marampa Chiefdom Port Loko District remains steadfast in its mission. The dedicated staff, with their unwavering commitment, continues to navigate the complexities of running an orphanage in Sierra Leone, determined to create a haven where every child can grow, learn, and build a foundation for a brighter future.
